What is a symbolic ceremony?
Symbolic ceremonies are celebrations performed during wedding events. They have no legal value or religious connotations.
They are customized for each couple. The symbolism of each ceremony reflects the couple's values, history and interests.
How long does a symbolic ceremony last?
About 30 minutes.
Do we get legally married if we hire a celebrant?
No. Symbolic ceremonies have no legal value. For the union to be legally binding, it must be validaded by a registrar.
The celebration of the civil marriage can take place before or after the wedding. If the couple wishes and the registrar consents, it is possible to perform the symbolic ceremony at the same time as the civil wedding.

How do the services work?
It begins with a first meeting by video call, free of charge and obligations, where the nearlyweds and the celebrant can exchange information about the ceremony and the services available.
If the couple accepts to hire the celebrant, they are asked to sign a client form with a description, terms and conditions. As well as paying the first instalment.
Additional meetings can be scheduled to receive feedback from the clients and to restructure the organisation of the celebration and the writing of the script for the ceremony.
Finally, on the day of the wedding/elopement/renewal of vows, the symbolic ceremony and ritual will be performed; and the marriage certificate will be signed.
How much does it cost?
€300 + travel fees.
The fee is paid in two instalments of €150. The first instalment is paid when you sign the client form. The second instalment can be paid two days before the ceremony.
What's included in the price?
It is included:
Video call meetings between the celebrant and the clients
The development of the ceremonial script and any re-edits requested by the nearlyweds
Organization of the ceremony and symbolic rituals
Performing the ceremony and ritual on the day and place of the wedding/elopement/renewal of vows
A printed version of the ceremonial script
A customized wedding certificate
Where is Epopeia based?
Epopeia Celebrations is based in Parque das Bandorreiras, in Sobral de Monte Agraço - Portugal.
The travel fees are calculated from this same location.
If the ceremony is cancelled, do I get my money back?
If a ceremony is cancelled, the second instalment will be refunded. The first instalment is non-refundable.
In which languages can the ceremonies be performed?
English and Portuguese.
How is the personal data I send for the ceremony processed?
Legally, transparently and without transfer to third parties.
